Does Canva Work in China?
Canva works in China only partly, and we rate it unreliable: on Chinese mobile data and Wi-Fi, canva.com redirects you to canva.cn, Canva's separate China version, and GreatFire's tests from mainland China find Canva's main site reachable only sometimes. Your canva.com account, designs and Pro plan don't carry over to canva.cn. The redirect pop-up lets you go back to canva.com. If the site won't load, switch to a roaming eSIM or a VPN, though one Canva user in China found the app kept redirecting to the China version even on a VPN.
Your options
Set these up before you fly.
| Option | Does it work? | |
|---|---|---|
| Roaming eSIMOnly if it routes your data outside mainland China | Works | eSIMs → |
| VPNInstall and test it before you fly | Varies | VPNs → |
| Canva可画 (canva.cn)Canva's own China version, with servers in mainland China and WeChat, QQ and Weibo sign-in. It needs a separate account. | Local option |
Before you fly
- Check how you log in to canva.com. The UK government lists Google and Facebook among services permanently blocked in China.
- Check your Apple ID's country or region. It decides whether the App Store gives you Canva's global app or the China version, and you can't switch in the app.
- Keep working in your canva.com account. A canva.cn account is separate, even with the same email address, and Canva shares no data between the two.
- Load your eSIM profile before you leave. MyChinaGuide warns that adding a new eSIM profile inside China doesn't work reliably.
Is Canva blocked in China?
No, but Canva’s global site doesn’t behave normally there. GreatFire’s checks from inside mainland China found canva.com reachable: its page answers “Yes”, a verdict GreatFire revised from “partly disrupted”. The latest check was on September 27, 2026. Its page for www.canva.com is less sure: “Sometimes”, with access rated unreliable, after checks up to October 8, 2026.
The bigger change comes from Canva itself. When you open canva.com from a mainland China IP address, Canva redirects you to canva.cn, its China site, and shows a pop-up. Pick Continue to use Canva China and that browser goes to the China site every time. The pop-up also offers a way back to the global site, and Canva says you won’t be redirected again after you take it.
Canva China version: Canva可画
Canva launched in mainland China in 2018, according to its company timeline and China Daily. Its China version is listed as Canva可画 in Apple’s China App Store and has its own website. Canva’s China help center says the site is built for users in China, with local templates, images and fonts and publishing to WeChat, Weibo and QQ. Its servers are in mainland China.
Some rules differ from the global site:
- All stock content on Canva China can be used commercially under its terms. On the global site, Canva says its Chinese fonts are for non-commercial use only.
- Canva China takes subscription payments through WeChat or Alipay.
- Designs made on Canva China can be published and shared abroad, Canva says.
- Canva for Enterprise in China is sold only to companies established there, foreign-owned ones included. Companies based abroad buy it on the global site.
Does my Canva account carry over to Canva China?
No. Canva says the two sites run separate account systems that can’t be used interchangeably, even if you signed up to both with the same email address or phone number. Canva’s older developer documentation is blunter: “No data is shared between these regions.”
- Subscriptions: A Pro plan bought on the global site gives you no premium features in a Canva China account.
- Merging: Canva China says there’s no direct way to merge accounts, and paid plans can’t move between accounts.
- Copying designs: Canva China’s method for copying a design to another account is to share it by email with edit rights, log in to the other account and make a copy. The page doesn’t say whether this works between the global and China sites, and we couldn’t confirm it.
In a 2023 r/canva thread, a user of the global site said colleagues in China, who were sent to the China site, couldn’t join their team by invite link or code. The colleagues designed on Canva China and emailed PDFs, which the user uploaded into their global account to edit.
Canva China login
Canva China accepts WeChat, QQ, Weibo, Apple, Microsoft, a mobile phone number, email and work email. The global site accepts Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Clever, email, work email and a mobile phone number. If you sign in to the global site with Google or Facebook, plan around it before you travel: UK travel advice says both are permanently blocked in China.
Canva China app
The Canva app you get from Apple’s App Store depends on the country or region of your Apple ID. A mainland China Apple ID downloads the China version, and you can’t switch versions in the app or in your device settings. On Android, Canva’s global app comes from Google Play, which isn’t available in mainland China, so it can’t be downloaded there.
How to use Canva in China
Start with the pop-up: Canva’s redirect offers a way back to the global site, so you may not need a workaround at all. When the global site won’t load, you need a connection that leaves the mainland, arranged before departure. eSIM or VPN for China? sets out the trade-offs.
On a roaming eSIM. Canva’s redirect is triggered by a mainland China IP address, and a roaming eSIM’s data leaves the mainland. MyChinaGuide, which publishes a China travel app, says a roaming eSIM passes your data to a partner network abroad, in Hong Kong or Singapore, so it never touches China’s domestic internet. No traveler report we found covers Canva on a roaming eSIM. Switch to hotel or airport Wi-Fi and you’re back on Chinese infrastructure, MyChinaGuide adds. Our eSIM page has plans that cover China.
With a VPN. Reports from Canva users are mixed. When a thread on r/chinalife started in November 2024, its author said the Canva app wouldn’t let them connect because of their VPN. In the same thread in January 2026, a user in China said that with a VPN on their home Wi-Fi, a laptop and one iPad used Canva without trouble. The Canva app on a second iPad kept redirecting to the China version, and adding a second VPN, Astrill, made it hang, though that iPad could still use Canva in a browser.
Canva’s terms of use, effective August 19, 2026, also bar using a VPN “to circumvent geographic-based pricing or content access”. The terms don’t mention China. MyChinaGuide says VPNs have been noticeably unreliable since an April 2026 crackdown, and users’ reports on each VPN are collected in which VPN works in China now. There’s also the law to consider: UK travel advice says a VPN needs a Chinese government licence, and is using a VPN legal in China? has the details for visitors.
Canva alternatives in China
The first option is Canva’s own China site, which needs a separate account.
- Gaoding Design (稿定设计): From a Xiamen company. Its China App Store listing offers templates for social media posts, e-commerce product images and posters.
- Chuangkit (创客贴): An online design site with templates for posters, business cards, slides and invitations, plus online printing, its website says.
Maigoo, a Chinese brand-ranking site, includes Gaoding, Canva可画 and Chuangkit in its October 2026 list of top online design brands.
For photo editing and PDFs, see Adobe in China. Notion users can check Notion in China, and working remotely from China covers the rest of a work setup.

FAQ
Is Canva available in China?
Yes. Canva runs a separate China version, Canva可画, at canva.cn, and you'll find its app in Apple's China App Store. canva.com also opens from mainland China at least some of the time, but Canva redirects visitors there to canva.cn unless they choose to stay on canva.com.
Can I use my Canva Pro subscription in China?
Only in your canva.com account. Canva says canva.com and canva.cn accounts and plans aren't interchangeable, so a Pro plan bought on canva.com gives you no premium features on canva.cn.
Can I use canva.cn designs outside China?
Yes. Canva China says it doesn't limit where you publish: downloaded designs and design links can be shared in China or abroad.
Why does canva.com redirect to canva.cn?
Canva redirects visitors with a mainland China IP address to canva.cn to introduce its China version. You can return to canva.com from the pop-up, and Canva says you won't be redirected again after you choose that.
