Does Adobe Work in China?
Adobe is unreliable on Chinese mobile data and Wi-Fi: Creative Cloud and Acrobat apps sign in and run, but Adobe doesn't offer cloud documents, Firefly AI or Acrobat Sign in mainland China. Acrobat Sign shows an access denied error to anyone on a mainland China IP address, including people who only need to sign. The desktop apps only need to go online every 30 days to check your license. Save the files you need on your device before you fly.
Your options
Set these up before you fly.
Before you fly
- Open each Adobe app online at home. The desktop apps check your license every 30 days, then keep working offline for a grace period.
- Sign pending Acrobat Sign documents before you go. Acrobat Sign won't open on a mainland China IP address.
- Save copies of your cloud documents on your computer. Adobe says cloud documents can't be used in mainland China.
- Store Lightroom albums locally. In Lightroom mobile, tap the three dots next to an album and choose Store Locally while you're still online.
- Set up a VPN at home if you might need Acrobat Sign in China, and test it before you fly.
Does Adobe Creative Cloud work in China?
The desktop apps do, but Adobe’s online Creative Cloud services don’t. Once installed, Photoshop, Illustrator and the other apps don’t need a constant connection, only a license check every 30 days.
Adobe’s Photoshop help says Creative Cloud services, including cloud documents, are available only in countries where Creative Cloud is offered. Because those services aren’t available in mainland China, it says, cloud documents can’t be used there. Adobe’s China website says some Creative Cloud features may not be available in the People’s Republic of China, and the licenses Adobe sells for use in China don’t currently include services.
Adobe Fonts isn’t available to Adobe accounts registered in China. Adobe says those accounts can’t add fonts through the Creative Cloud desktop app or to a website. The page doesn’t mention visitors, and GreatFire found fonts.adobe.com not blocked on October 8, 2026.
Creative Cloud sign-in and license checks
Creative Cloud apps need the internet to install, and then to check your license every 30 days. Between checks they work offline. If a check fails, Adobe shows a reminder to reconnect, which you can dismiss, and the apps keep working for a grace period:
- Individual plans, annual: 99 days.
- Individual plans, month to month: 30 days.
- Teams and enterprise plans: 99 days.
Adobe says an individual plan’s grace period can be as short as 5 days, depending on your subscription and billing status and whether you bought it from Adobe or a retailer. Near the end, the reminder appears every day. When the grace period runs out, you get one last offline launch.
Two of Adobe’s sign-in servers weren’t blocked in recent tests. Adobe lists auth.services.adobe.com and adobeid-na1.services.adobe.com among its authentication services. GreatFire, which tests websites from mainland China, found auth.services.adobe.com not blocked over plain HTTP on October 12, 2026, and adobeid-na1.services.adobe.com not blocked on October 17, 2026. Adobe stores account and license data in the US, in Virginia and Oregon, with edge servers in Ireland, France, Japan, Singapore and Australia.
Firefly and Generative Fill in China
Adobe’s generative AI features aren’t available in mainland China. Adobe’s Firefly FAQ says that to use Firefly features, including those in Creative Cloud apps, you should be in a country where Firefly is available, and that Firefly isn’t available in Russia, Belarus and China. Adobe’s InDesign help says its generative AI features work wherever Adobe provides services, except in mainland China and Russia.
Generative Fill in Photoshop uses Adobe’s Firefly models or partner AI models. A Photoshop user wrote on Adobe’s community forum in May 2024 that during a two-week trip to China, Generative Fill showed the message “generative fill not supported in China”.
Does Adobe Lightroom work in China?
Adobe doesn’t offer Lightroom in China, and we couldn’t confirm whether its cloud sync works for visitors. Adobe’s help center says customers in China won’t find Lightroom in the Creative Cloud desktop app, because Lightroom “includes technology that Adobe cannot offer in certain countries.”
In 2021, an Adobe employee wrote that Lightroom subscriptions for iPhone and iPad bought through a mainland China App Store account include no sync or other server-based features, only local editing. GreatFire found lightroom.adobe.com reachable from mainland China on July 17, 2026, its latest test. But Adobe says Creative Cloud services aren’t available in mainland China, so plan for Lightroom not to sync during your trip.
Store the albums you need on your device before you fly. A Community Expert on Adobe’s forum says that in Lightroom mobile, you tap the three dots next to an album and choose Store Locally while you’re still online. That downloads the originals, or smart previews, depending on your Cloud Storage and Sync setting.
Does Adobe Acrobat work in China?
The Acrobat desktop app works in China, but Acrobat’s online services may not. Adobe says Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Standard need the internet on first launch and every 30 days to check your subscription. Adobe also sells Acrobat Standard in Simplified Chinese to organizations in China.
Adobe hosts Acrobat’s online services on Amazon Web Services, with data centers in locations including North America, Europe and Japan, its Trust Center says. GreatFire found acrobat.adobe.com not blocked on August 20, 2026, its latest test. Adobe may not serve them in China, though. In 2020 and 2023, answers on Adobe’s community forum said Acrobat’s online services aren’t available in China. In 2019, a user in China wrote on the forum that Adobe’s cloud documents page redirected to Adobe’s China home page.
Does Adobe Sign work in China?
No. Adobe blocks Acrobat Sign, also called Adobe Sign, for anyone on a mainland China IP address. Its Acrobat Sign FAQ says Adobe doesn’t host Acrobat Sign on a server in China and doesn’t support using it in China.
In May 2025, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Illinois told staff that the block would start in the last week of June 2025. It applies to everyone, including senders, signers, approvers, viewers and administrators, on the web, in the mobile app and through API integrations. They get an access denied error. People outside mainland China aren’t affected, and documents and data stay available from there.
In October 2025, Microsoft told its partners that, at Microsoft’s request, Adobe had moved the block for Microsoft’s accounts to October 13, 2025. Its notice says Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are excluded. It gives Adobe’s reason: because of local laws and regulations, Adobe can’t support Acrobat Sign use in China, since Acrobat Sign isn’t hosted on a server there. Signers in mainland China still get Adobe Sign’s emails but can’t open the agreements, so Microsoft moved them to DocuSign for now.
If you might need to sign something during your trip, sign it before you go, or use a connection that comes out outside mainland China. The University of Illinois says the block shouldn’t affect people who use its university VPN.
Adobe China: plans and licenses
In mainland China, Adobe sells Creative Cloud and Acrobat to organizations through authorized resellers, not to individuals on its website. Adobe’s availability chart lists China only for Creative Cloud for teams and enterprise through resellers. Hong Kong and Macau get every plan, including individual plans on adobe.com.
Licenses for China come through Adobe’s Value Incentive Plan (VIP) for organizations:
- They’re named-user licenses for Creative Cloud for teams, Creative Cloud for enterprise and Acrobat Standard, in Simplified Chinese.
- Services aren’t currently included in licenses for use in China.
- They need a separate China VIP agreement and must be bought through an Adobe Authorized Reseller located in China. A company with staff in the US and in China buys North American licenses for one group and Chinese licenses for the other.
- Occasional travel outside the region a license was bought for is fine, but Adobe expects most use to be in that region.
Adobe checks that its apps are genuine. In a Chinese-language help page updated on September 30, 2026, Adobe says that apps it can’t verify as officially licensed are restricted and can no longer be opened. Files on your device aren’t deleted.
Adobe’s only plan for individuals in China was the China Photography Plan, launched in August 2019. It included Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop Express. Adobe told the South China Morning Post in November 2023 that it was withdrawing the plan after a business assessment, and that its mainland website would stop offering it after December 3, 2023. The paper said Photoshop and other apps were still available in China through business plans sold by resellers.
Adobe China price
Adobe’s China website doesn’t list prices. Its Creative Cloud plans page and product pages lead to a business page that tells buyers to contact an authorized reseller, call Adobe’s sales line or fill in a contact form. Its Acrobat pricing page leads to a similar business page.
With a roaming eSIM or VPN
A VPN can get you to Acrobat Sign, but we couldn’t confirm that a VPN or a roaming eSIM brings back Firefly, cloud documents or Lightroom sync. Adobe’s Acrobat Sign block goes by IP address, and the University of Illinois says it shouldn’t affect people who use the university’s VPN. A roaming eSIM also sends your data through a gateway outside mainland China, as long as you use the eSIM’s data and not hotel Wi-Fi, says Airalo, which sells eSIMs. We found no report of Acrobat Sign on a roaming eSIM in China.
Adobe’s Firefly FAQ asks you to be in a country where Firefly is available, and a VPN or an eSIM doesn’t change where you are.
See eSIM or VPN for China, VPNs that work in China and VPN for hotel Wi-Fi in China. If your employer gives you a VPN, see corporate VPNs in China.

FAQ
Is Adobe banned in China?
No. Adobe sells Creative Cloud and Acrobat in mainland China through authorized resellers and runs a Chinese website. GreatFire rates adobe.com as mixed, with some Adobe addresses blocked, but in 2026 it found two Adobe sign-in servers, Acrobat on the web and Adobe Fonts not blocked. The main limits come from Adobe itself, which doesn't offer Acrobat Sign, Firefly or cloud documents in mainland China.
Does Adobe Sign work in China?
Not on Chinese networks. Adobe blocks Acrobat Sign, also called Adobe Sign, for everyone on a mainland China IP address, including people who only need to sign. Universities told staff in May 2025 that the block would start in the last week of June 2025. A Microsoft notice says Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are excluded.
Do I need a VPN for Adobe in China?
Not for the desktop apps. GreatFire found two Adobe sign-in servers not blocked in October 2026, and the apps only need to go online every 30 days. For Acrobat Sign, you need a connection that comes out outside mainland China, such as a VPN. Adobe's Firefly FAQ asks you to be in a country where Firefly is available, and China isn't one.
Can I use my Adobe license in China?
We found no Adobe page about using a personal plan bought abroad during a visit to China. The desktop apps keep running there between license checks. For licenses bought through Adobe's VIP program for organizations, Adobe allows occasional travel outside the region a license was bought for. Licenses for use in China must be bought from an authorized reseller in China.
How much does Adobe cost in China?
Adobe's China website doesn't list prices. It sells Creative Cloud and Acrobat to organizations through authorized resellers, by phone or through a contact form. Its only plan for individuals in China, the China Photography Plan, came off Adobe's mainland website after December 3, 2023, the South China Morning Post reported.
