Chongqing airport Wi-Fi is free in the terminals, according to the airport. Travel guides say you log in with a text code, with WeChat, or with a username and password from a Wi-Fi kiosk that scans your passport. Guides say the text code is for Chinese numbers, so with a foreign number, use a kiosk or ask at an information desk. The network name is not confirmed. Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps won't work on the airport Wi-Fi without a VPN.
- The airport says its terminals provide free Wi-Fi and 5G service. Its passenger guide pages don't give the network name or the login steps.
- The network name is not confirmed. Two 2025-2026 guides give CKG-Free-WiFi. Other guides give Airport-Free-Wi-Fi and cqairprot-free-wifi.
- Guides list three ways to log in: a text code for Chinese numbers, WeChat, and a kiosk that scans your passport and prints a username and password.
- Where the kiosks are, time limits and speeds are not confirmed.
- All flights have used Terminal 3 since December 23, 2025. International flights use Terminal 3A.
- Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps don't work on the airport Wi-Fi. Use a VPN (connect it after the Wi-Fi login), or turn Wi-Fi off and use a roaming eSIM.
Chongqing airport free Wi-Fi login
To use the free Wi-Fi at Chongqing airport, join the airport’s free network, then log in with a text code, with WeChat, or with a username and password from a Wi-Fi kiosk. The airport’s passenger service commitments say the terminals provide free Wi-Fi and 5G network service (航站楼内提供免费无线WIFI、5G网络服务). The airport’s passenger guide pages don’t describe how to log in, so the login methods below come from travel guides.
- In your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, join the airport’s free network. Its name is not confirmed; see the list below.
- Wait for the login page to open. If it doesn’t, open a plain http address such as
http://example.comin your browser. NordVPN’s help center suggests this to bring up a Wi-Fi login page. - Log in with a text code, WeChat or a kiosk account, as below.
All flights have used Terminal 3 since December 23, 2025, when the last four airlines moved over from Terminal 2, according to China for Travelers’ August 2026 guide. International flights use Terminal 3A. China for Travelers says Terminal 2 is closed for refurbishment.

Which network to join
The network name is not confirmed. The airport’s passenger guide pages don’t give it, and guides disagree:
CKG-Free-WiFi: Trip.com’s March 2025 guide and a January 2026 guide from Nihao Chongqing, a local tour operator.Airport-Free-Wi-Fi: Trip.com’s June 2026 guide on its Singapore site.cqairprot-free-wifi, spelled this way: an undated guide from China Airline Travel, a booking site.
Join whichever of these you see. If you see none of them, ask at an information desk.
Text code
China Airline Travel’s guide gives these steps: choose Login via SMS, enter your phone number and tap Get Code, then enter the code from the text message and tap Log in.
East China Trip’s September 2026 guide says the text login is for users with a Chinese mobile number. Wander in China’s July 2026 guide says that without a Chinese number, or a foreign number that reliably receives Chinese texts, you can’t log in this way. Whether codes reach foreign numbers is not confirmed. If no code arrives, use a kiosk.
East China Trip’s guide also lists a WeChat login. How it works, and whether it accepts a WeChat account registered to a foreign number, is not confirmed.
Chongqing airport Wi-Fi kiosk
The Wi-Fi kiosks at Chongqing airport scan your passport and print a temporary username and password, according to Wander in China’s July 2026 guide. It says the kiosks are scattered around the terminals. East China Trip’s September 2026 guide lists token machines that give travelers without a mobile number temporary login details.
- Find a Wi-Fi kiosk in the terminal.
- Scan your passport’s information page.
- Take the printed slip with your username and password.
- Join the Wi-Fi and enter them on the login page.
The airport’s passenger guide pages don’t mention the kiosks, and where they stand is not confirmed.
The airport has offered Wi-Fi accounts on a passport before. In March 2014, the Chongqing news site Hualong (华龙网) reported that the airport had put Wi-Fi code machines at the information desk in its international terminal’s departure hall. Staff gave foreign passengers an account on their passport for 5 hours of free Wi-Fi, up to 3 accounts per passport. That was before Terminal 3A opened in August 2017. Current time limits and speeds are not confirmed.
If you can’t log in
Ask at an information desk. The airport lists several in Terminal 3A:
- International arrivals, level 1. Opens 30 minutes before each flight lands and stays open until that flight’s passengers are through.
- International departures, Pier H, level 3. Opens 105 minutes before the first international departure and closes when the last one finishes boarding.
The airport’s 24-hour information line is +86 23 966666. Official page, in Chinese (archived copy): Information desks (May 2026).
What doesn’t work on Chongqing airport Wi-Fi
Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps don’t work on the airport Wi-Fi without a VPN. The airport Wi-Fi is a Chinese network, so the usual blocks apply. Airalo says Google (including Gmail and Maps), Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube and WhatsApp are generally inaccessible on local networks in China. Wander in China’s guide also tells travelers to download a VPN before they fly “so your western apps work”.
A roaming eSIM doesn’t help while your phone is on the Wi-Fi. Airalo says its eSIM gives full access to blocked sites “as long as you are using your eSIM data (and not the hotel Wi-Fi)”. The same goes for airport Wi-Fi: turn Wi-Fi off to use the eSIM’s data.

Other ways to get internet at Chongqing airport
If the airport Wi-Fi isn’t enough, use a roaming eSIM, a Chinese SIM card or a VPN.
A roaming eSIM
A roaming eSIM gives you mobile data without the airport login. Airalo says its eSIM data is routed through secure gateways outside mainland China, which is why blocked sites work on it. China for Travelers suggests buying an eSIM before you fly and leaving your home SIM on roaming for one-time passcodes. Each provider’s routing is in our China eSIM comparison.
A Chinese SIM card at the airport
Guides disagree on where to buy a SIM card at Chongqing airport:
- China for Travelers’ August 2026 guide says the only desk is China Telecom’s, on level 1 of Terminal 3A international arrivals, beside the currency exchange window. It says the desk sells 7-, 15- and 30-day tourist SIM cards on a passport alone, in about five minutes, and that the carrier kiosks that used to be in domestic arrivals are gone.
- Wander in China’s July 2026 guide says China Mobile and China Unicom have booths in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall, and that staff photograph you holding your passport to register the card.
- East China Trip’s September 2026 guide puts a SIM counter on the fourth floor of Terminal 3A, near area 3B, open 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Which of these is current, and what the cards cost, is not confirmed. A Chinese SIM uses a local network, so the same apps stay blocked on it.
A VPN
If you use a VPN, finish the Wi-Fi login with the VPN off, then connect it. NordVPN’s help center calls the login page on public Wi-Fi at hotels, airports and cafes a captive portal. It says auto-connect stops that page from loading, and a kill switch blocks all non-VPN traffic, so the page never appears.
- Turn off your VPN’s auto-connect and kill switch, and disconnect the VPN.
- Join the airport’s free network and complete the login.
- If the login page doesn’t appear, open a plain http address such as
http://example.com. NordVPN suggests this to bring the page up. - Connect the VPN, then turn the kill switch and auto-connect back on.
Provider-specific fixes are in our guide to using a VPN on hotel Wi-Fi in China.
