Chengdu Airport Wi-Fi: Tianfu and Shuangliu

Short answer

Chengdu airport Wi-Fi is free at Tianfu, where most international flights land. Join 天府国际机场免费WiFi, then log in with a code sent by text or with an account and password from a Wi-Fi kiosk that scans your passport. If no code reaches your foreign number, use a kiosk. Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps won't work on the airport Wi-Fi without a VPN.

  • Tianfu's free network is 天府国际机场免费WiFi (Tianfu International Airport free Wi-Fi), according to the airport's website. Its English page also gives the name TFairport-Free-WiFi.
  • Tianfu lists two ways to log in. You verify your phone number with a text code, or you get an account and password from a Wi-Fi kiosk.
  • The kiosks scan passports, and their screens offer English, Japanese and Korean. Where they stand in the terminals is not confirmed.
  • Shuangliu's free network was AIRPORT-FREE-WiFi in the airport's 2013 notice, and the text login took mainland Chinese numbers only. Current details are not confirmed.
  • Time limits and speeds on Tianfu's Wi-Fi are not confirmed.
  • Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps don't work on the airport Wi-Fi. Use a VPN (connect it after the Wi-Fi login), or turn Wi-Fi off and use a roaming eSIM.

Chengdu Tianfu airport free Wi-Fi login

To use the free Wi-Fi at Chengdu Tianfu airport, join 天府国际机场免费WiFi, then log in with a text code or with an account from a Wi-Fi kiosk. The airport’s website gives the network name and lists these two login methods: a verification code (验证码) and a Wi-Fi kiosk (取号机).

  1. In your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, join 天府国际机场免费WiFi. The airport’s English page also gives the name TFairport-Free-WiFi. If you don’t see the Chinese name, look for that one.
  2. Wait for the login page to open. If it doesn’t, open a browser and enter any web address, as the kiosk’s instructions say. NordVPN’s help center suggests a plain http address such as http://example.com.
  3. Log in with a text code or a kiosk account, as below.

The login page has Chinese and English labels, according to the airport’s screenshots. Official pages (archived copies): Wi-Fi at Tianfu airport, in Chinese (February 2025) and in English (December 2024).

Text code

To log in by text, enter your phone number, tap 获取验证码 (Get VerifyCode), then enter the code you receive and tap 登录 (Login). These steps come from the airport’s Chinese Wi-Fi page and its screenshots.

Whether codes reach foreign numbers is not confirmed. If no code arrives, use a kiosk.

Chengdu Tianfu airport Wi-Fi kiosk

The Wi-Fi kiosk at Chengdu Tianfu airport scans your passport and prints an account and password for the free Wi-Fi. The airport’s English Wi-Fi page lists these steps:

  1. Choose a language on the touch screen. The airport’s screenshot shows Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean.
  2. Choose how to verify. The screenshot shows three options: Chinese ID card (二代身份证), passport (护照) and travel permit for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (港澳台通行证).
  3. Scan your passport. The Chinese page shows this step with a Chinese ID card and says other documents work the same way: lay it face down on the scanner glass and tap Start scanning (开始扫描).
  4. Take the printed slip with your username and password. The Chinese page says it prints after 2 to 3 seconds. The kiosk screen also reminds you to take your document back.
  5. Join the Wi-Fi. When the login page opens, tap Account (账号认证 / Account), enter the username and password, then tap Login.

A January 2026 guide from East China Trip, a tour operator, says the Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. It gives the network name as “Tianfu International Airport Free WiFi” and lists the same two logins: a text code and a passport kiosk.

Where the kiosks are is not confirmed. If you can’t find one, ask staff for the 旅客WiFi取号机 (passenger Wi-Fi kiosk). How long a login lasts, and the speed, are also not confirmed.

Chengdu Shuangliu airport Wi-Fi

Shuangliu airport’s free network was AIRPORT-FREE-WiFi when the airport launched it in January 2013. Whether that is still the name, and how foreign visitors log in now, is not confirmed.

The airport’s February 2013 notice said:

  • The Wi-Fi covered the arrival and departure halls of Terminals 1 and 2, and the passenger waiting areas after security.
  • You entered a phone number on the login page and got a username and password by text. Only mainland Chinese numbers were accepted.
  • Each device got 5 hours per session and was cut off after 20 minutes without activity. A device could request an account three times a day.
  • The Wi-Fi was for browsing only, with no downloads or video.

A passport kiosk at Shuangliu is not confirmed. If you only have a foreign number, use one of the options in the next sections.

Most international flights land at Tianfu, according to China for Travelers. Since July 30, 2026, some Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan flights have moved from Tianfu’s Terminal 1 to Shuangliu’s Terminal 1, according to the Sichuan Airport Group. Both airports now run these flights, so check which airport is on your booking.

What doesn’t work on Chengdu airport Wi-Fi

Google, WhatsApp and other blocked apps don’t work on the airport Wi-Fi without a VPN. The airport Wi-Fi is a Chinese network, so the usual blocks apply. Airalo says Google (including Gmail and Maps), Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube and WhatsApp are generally inaccessible on local networks in China.

A roaming eSIM doesn’t help while your phone is on the Wi-Fi. Airalo says its eSIM gives full access to blocked sites “as long as you are using your eSIM data (and not the hotel Wi-Fi)”. The same goes for airport Wi-Fi: turn Wi-Fi off to use the eSIM’s data.

Other ways to get internet at Chengdu airport

If the airport Wi-Fi isn’t enough, use a roaming eSIM, a Chinese SIM card or a VPN.

A roaming eSIM

A roaming eSIM gives you mobile data without the airport login. Airalo says its eSIM data is routed through secure gateways outside mainland China, which is why blocked sites work on it. Each provider’s routing is in our China eSIM comparison.

A Chinese SIM card at the airport

At Tianfu, the January 2026 East China Trip guide says local SIM cards are sold in the international and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan arrivals area of Terminal 1, 24 hours a day. An August 2026 guide from China for Travelers says it could not confirm whether an arrivals-hall SIM counter at Tianfu is currently staffed.

At Shuangliu, China for Travelers says there are carrier desks in arrivals and that they require passport registration. It suggests an eSIM bought before you fly as the faster option if you land late or have a tight connection.

Which operators run these counters, and their current prices, are not confirmed. A Chinese SIM uses a local network, so the same apps stay blocked on it.

A VPN

If you use a VPN, finish the Wi-Fi login with the VPN off, then connect it. NordVPN’s help center calls the login page on public Wi-Fi at hotels, airports and cafes a captive portal. It says auto-connect stops that page from loading, and a kill switch blocks all non-VPN traffic, so the page never appears.

  1. Turn off your VPN’s auto-connect and kill switch, and disconnect the VPN.
  2. Join 天府国际机场免费WiFi and complete the login.
  3. If the login page doesn’t appear, open a plain http address such as http://example.com. NordVPN suggests this to bring the page up.
  4. Connect the VPN, then turn the kill switch and auto-connect back on.
