For trips of two days or more, the Asia Travel Pass costs less: C$30 for 3 days, C$55 for 7, C$70 for 14 or C$90 for 30. Rogers doesn't say how it routes roaming data. - Rogers' 5G+ Ultimate plan, C$115 a month before discounts, includes data, talk and text in China and 63 other destinations. Macau isn't one of them.

For a trip of two days or more, the Asia Travel Pass costs less than Roam Like Home Daily, from C$30 for 3 days. Rogers prices on this page are in Canadian dollars before tax, from the China result on Rogers’ roaming page, checked Oct 18, 2026.

| Asia Travel Pass, 7 days | C$55 | Your plan’s data | Same as Roam Like Home |
| Asia Travel Pass, 14 days | C$70 | Your plan’s data | Same as Roam Like Home |

- Who can use it: Roam Like Home Daily and the Travel Passes are for eligible postpaid plans. Rogers excludes prepaid accounts, most enterprise plans and monthly plans that include roaming.
- What counts as a day: Rogers charges Roam Like Home Daily for each calendar day you use your phone in China, from first use until 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), whatever time zone you’re in. China is 12 hours ahead of ET from March to early November and 13 hours ahead the rest of the year, so a Rogers day ends just before noon China time, or just before 1 p.m. in winter.
- Your plan’s allowance: Roam Like Home and the Travel Passes have no separate data bucket. They use the data, talk and text in your plan.
- Calls to other countries: you’re covered for calls and texts within the country you’re in and to Canada. Calls and texts to another country cost long distance, even if that country is on your pass, unless your plan includes it.
- Per line: each daily fee and each pass is per mobile line, so every phone on your account needs its own.
- Price changes: Rogers raised its international daily rate from C$16 to C$18 on August 7, 2025, iPhone in Canada reported. Guides that list C$15 or C$16 a day for China are out of date.
Asia Travel Pass dates
- A pass starts at 12 a.m. ET on the start date you pick, which is noon in China (1 p.m. in winter). It ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on its last day.
- You can buy a pass up to 60 days ahead, or while you’re travelling. You can’t backdate it: Rogers charges Roam Like Home Daily for each day you used your phone before the pass started. If you land in China in the morning, a pass that starts on your arrival date doesn’t cover that morning.
- You can change the start date or cancel a pending pass in MyRogers, but not on the start date. Once a pass starts, it can’t be cancelled, paused or refunded.
- You can’t renew a pass. For a longer trip, buy a second one that starts when the first ends.
- The Asia pass covers 34 destinations, including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.
Rogers 5G+ Ultimate: China roaming included
Rogers’ 5G+ Ultimate plan includes data, talk and text in 64 destinations, including China and Hong Kong. Macau isn’t on its list. On Rogers’ plans page for Ontario, the plan costs C$115 a month before discounts, checked Oct 18, 2026. Rogers’ plan terms say roaming on another carrier’s network may come with speed or data limits, and that your main data use must be on the Rogers network. The other plans on that page include roaming in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean at most.
Rogers Red Mastercard holders get 5 Roam Like Home days a year at no cost, or 10 with the World Legend card. From January 12, 2027, Rogers replaces these days with an annual roaming credit, which can pay for Travel Passes or Roam Like Home Daily.
Rogers data roaming in China without Roam Like Home
If you’ve opted out of Roam Like Home or your plan isn’t eligible, Rogers charges pay-per-use rates in China: C$15.00 per 10MB of data, C$3.00 a minute for calls and C$0.75 per text. If Roam Like Home doesn’t apply to you, the welcome text Rogers sends when you arrive lists these rates.
- The C$100 cap: under the CRTC’s Wireless Code, Rogers pauses pay-per-use data roaming once an account reaches C$100 in data roaming charges in a bill cycle, unless the account holder or an authorized user agrees to pay more. To agree in advance, text GOROAM to 3330. Rogers says the Roam Like Home daily fee doesn’t count toward this cap, and Roam Like Home keeps working while pay-per-use data is paused.
- Background data: Rogers says background app refresh, Wi-Fi Assist, cloud backups and push email can use data and lead to roaming charges.
How to turn on Rogers international roaming in China
For Roam Like Home Daily:
- Before you fly, text TRAVEL to 222 to confirm that you’re enrolled in Roam Like Home. If you turned it off, turn it back on for your trip.
- Make sure there are no roaming blocks on the line you’re taking. Rogers’ virtual assistant can check this for you.
- In China, turn on data roaming in your phone’s settings. Rogers sends a free welcome text when you arrive.
For an Asia Travel Pass:
- Sign in to MyRogers or the MyRogers app and select the number you’re taking.
- Under My add-ons, select Manage add-ons, choose the Asia Travel Pass and select your start date.
- Accept the terms and place the order. The charge appears on your next bill after the pass starts.
- Do the Roam Like Home steps above too. Rogers says Roam Like Home must be on, roaming blocks removed and roaming turned on in your phone for the pass to work.
If your phone doesn’t connect in China, Rogers says to check that data roaming is on and airplane mode is off. Your phone should connect to a local network by itself. If it doesn’t, choose a network manually.
Does WhatsApp work on Rogers roaming in China?
Likely, but not confirmed by Rogers. We found no Rogers page that says how Rogers routes roaming data or whether apps blocked in China work on it. The reports we found:
- In a RedFlagDeals thread about reaching YouTube, Gmail and WhatsApp from China, a member wrote on March 13, 2024: “I find if I use my Rogers/Fido simcard I have no issue but again that oversea data charge is really expensive.” They didn’t say when they were last in China.
- Salil Kanhere, a cybersecurity expert at UNSW, told The Canberra Times in July 2026 that roaming data is in many cases routed through the traveller’s home carrier or an overseas gateway, so some blocked apps might still work in China. He was talking about Australian plans and didn’t name Rogers.
Neither report describes a test. Have a backup ready. Our WhatsApp in China page covers other ways to reach it, and our pages on Gmail in China and Google Maps in China cover Google.
When you still need a VPN
Roaming doesn’t help on Wi-Fi. The Canberra Times article says that if you rely on local Wi-Fi at hotels and cafés, or buy a SIM card when you arrive, blocked apps stay blocked. The Government of Canada’s travel advice for China, updated October 14, 2026, says China blocks several websites, social media, search engines and online services, and that you shouldn’t expect internet privacy there. On hotel or café Wi-Fi in China, you need a VPN for blocked apps, whatever your phone plan. A VPN is also your fallback if Rogers roaming data doesn’t get past the firewall for you. Install and test one before you leave Canada. See eSIM or VPN for China and VPN for hotel Wi-Fi in China.
Rogers roaming in China cost compared with travel eSIMs
Extra cost for data in China for one person, in Canadian dollars, checked Oct 18, 2026, on each provider’s site. Rogers prices are before tax.
| Option | Data in China | 7 days | 14 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rogers Roam Like Home Daily | Your plan’s data | C$126 | C$252 | C$540 |
| Rogers Asia Travel Pass | Your plan’s data | C$55 | C$70 | C$90 |
| Nomad | Unlimited, 2GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps | C$35.37 | C$55.17 (15 days; no 14-day plan) | No 30-day unlimited plan |
| Airalo | Unlimited, 3GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps | C$38.50 | C$69.50 (15 days; no 14-day plan) | C$98.00 |
- 7 days: the Asia Travel Pass costs C$55. Unlimited data costs C$19.63 less on Nomad and C$16.50 less on Airalo.
- 14 days: the Asia Travel Pass costs C$70. Nomad’s 15-day plan costs C$55.17 and Airalo’s C$69.50.
- 30 days: the Asia Travel Pass costs C$90, C$8.00 less than Airalo’s 30-day unlimited plan. Nomad’s longest unlimited plan is 15 days. Its 20GB plan for 30 days costs C$42.44; on Oct 18, 2026 it was on sale for C$31.12.
- Speed: the eSIMs slow to 1 Mbps after their daily allowance. Rogers’ options use your plan’s data, though its plan terms say roaming networks may limit speed or data. iPhone in Canada reported in October 2026 that Rogers, unlike Bell and Telus, hadn’t set a 5GB daily limit on full-speed roaming.
- Calls and texts: Rogers’ options include calls and texts on your own number. The Nomad and Airalo plans above are data only.
If you use a travel eSIM, Rogers says to set it as your primary SIM, so your Rogers SIM doesn’t connect to a roaming network and add charges. Speed limits on unlimited eSIM plans, and how each one routes data, are on our eSIM comparison.
